Bank office block, Athens
Tombazis N. Alexandros and Associates Architects S.A.

14/2/2012
The building houses one bank’s administrative services and a new separate bank branch. It consists of four levels one of which is sunken. The superstructure covering 4,500 m2 consists of two elongated wings, with an atrium in between them, which is the heart of the building providing space for communal functions, movement and stoppage. In addition, it ensures natural light and ventilation for all main spaces in the building. The trapezoidal single-storey structure houses the bank branch and combines a glass barrier wall, an entrance forecourt and the branch. The building was designed to save energy and optimise the sense of comfort among users. The skylights in the atrium have built-in shades so as to prevent unwanted overheating by the sun. All office spaces have ceiling fans which cool and reduce the amount of time air conditioners are used, while the heat insulation on the outer walls reduces the thermal bridges.
